Verdict. Greenhouse remains the default ATS for companies that want structured, repeatable interviewing and are willing to pay for the largest integration ecosystem in recruiting.

Best for: mid-market structured hiring.

Greenhouse popularised structured hiring: defined scorecards, interview kits, and consistent decision meetings. More than a decade on, that design still shapes how most recruiting teams work, and it is why Greenhouse is the system most other recruitment tools integrate with first.

Its weaknesses are cost and reporting. Standard reports are serviceable, but anything custom requires the Business Intelligence connector or an external warehouse. Annual contracts start around four figures per month for small companies and climb steeply.

It earns its place in the top ten because it is reliable, well supported and, for a 300-person company replacing a messy process, still one of the safest decisions in HR software.

Pros and cons

Structured hiring workflows that enforce consistency
Largest partner ecosystem in the category
Mature compliance, permissions and audit features
Pricing out of reach for small teams
Reporting requires add-ons for anything beyond standard views
Scheduling and CRM are weaker than specialised tools
